Principal Engineer (Nitro System/EC2)

hirify.global's EC2 organization builds the Nitro System, the foundation of AWS cloud computing, combining near bare-metal performance with industry-leading security.

What you will do

• Define the technical roadmap for the Nitro Hypervisor, Nitro Card components, and EC2 Core Platform engineering.
• Architect and implement hypervisor features for Intel, AMD, and Graviton-based instance families.
• Lead development of Nitro Card firmware bundles, system services, and new EC2 Core Platform bring-up from hardware specifications through production deployment.
• Design confidential computing capabilities including Nitro Enclaves, memory encryption, and cryptographic attestation.
• Investigate complex production issues across hypervisor, firmware, hardware, and control plane interactions, including kernel upgrades and platform qualification.
• Mentor engineers, lead architecture and design reviews, coordinate cross-organizational delivery, and participate in the production on-call rotation.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Professional software development experience building scalable production systems.
• Systems programming experience with C, C++, or similar low-level languages.
• Experience with systems software, embedded systems, or distributed systems.
• Experience leading technical initiatives across multiple teams and applying full software development life-cycle practices.
• Openness to using AI tools and technologies to improve productivity and technical problem-solving.

Nice to have

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Firmware development experience with BIOS, UEFI, or embedded systems.
• Background in hardware-software co-design, platform engineering, high-performance computing, real-time systems, or bare-metal optimization.
• Experience mentoring engineers and delivering complex cross-functional projects from concept to production.
