Senior Cost Engineer (Automotive)

TL;DR

Senior Cost Engineer (Automotive): Generating detailed material and tooling cost estimates for next-generation automotive vehicles and propulsion systems with an accent on manufacturing process knowledge and cost optimization. Focus on leading cross-functional cost initiatives, designing analytical frameworks, and mentoring junior engineers to drive cost reductions.

Location: Hybrid (Warren, Michigan). Must report to Global HQ at least three times per week. No relocation benefits provided.

What you will do

• Create and validate ground-up material and tooling cost estimates for vehicle components.
• Collaborate with product engineering, purchasing, and global partners to identify cost reduction opportunities.
• Lead cross-functional cost forums and align stakeholders on cost assumptions and recommendations.
• Develop and improve core cost models (CCMs), analytical tools, and dashboards.
• Mentor and coach junior cost engineers and analysts, reviewing complex estimates.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in automotive cost estimating, manufacturing, or purchasing.
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Finance, Business, or a related field.
• Expertise in MS Excel and financial evaluation of technical concepts.
• Comprehensive knowledge of automotive manufacturing processes (e.g., injection molding, die casting, stamping).
• Must not require immigration sponsorship (H-1B, OPT, etc.) now or in the future.

Nice to have

• Graduate degree (MBA or Master's in Engineering/Technical Management).
• Experience with supplier component quotes to OEMs.
• Experience in Tier 1 or Tier 2 automotive environments.
