Senior Software System Architect (Embedded Controls)

Location: Milford, Michigan, United States; hybrid attendance required at least three times per week

What you will do

• Define high-level software architecture for the Agile Release Train, including non-functional requirements and future technical directions.
• Lead the creation of new components and re-architect software to improve quality, maintainability, scalability, and resource utilization.
• Develop the architectural runway across enabler epics, business epics, and system architect roadmaps.
• Drive software structural quality assurance and compliance with GM guidelines, MISRA, CERT C, and other industry standards.
• Support PI planning, system demos, architecture synchronization, work acceptance, and related Agile activities.
• Break architectural initiatives into sprint-ready features and stories while training and mentoring software developers.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering.
• At least 5 years of experience in a related technical and professional area.
• Proficiency in C/C++ or a similar programming language.
• Experience with embedded controls, software architecture, and design trade-offs.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize complex work, communicate with leadership and delivery teams, and mentor others.
• Ability to report to the Milford, Michigan location at least three times per week.

Nice to have

• Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering.
• 8+ years of relevant experience, including 3+ years of C/C++ programming and 2+ years in embedded controls and software.
• Experience with architecture design, controller resource utilization reduction, training, and leading ambiguous projects.
• Experience in Agile environments and familiarity with software-defined vehicle architecture.
