TL;DR
Senior Mechanical Engineer (HVAC): Designing mechanical and HVAC systems for new facilities, additions, and renovation projects with an accent on construction documents, energy calculations, equipment selection, and code compliance. Focus on leading multidisciplinary project teams, coordinating with clients and contractors, overseeing junior engineers, and performing construction administration and QA/QC.

Location: Oakland, California, USA; onsite role with up to 20% travel.

Base salary: $125,000–$150,000 per year.

What you will do

  • Design HVAC and other mechanical systems for new facilities, additions, and renovation projects.
  • Perform load and energy calculations using HAP, IES, and similar software, and select mechanical equipment.
  • Prepare construction drawings, specifications, design documents, reports, and technical studies.
  • Conduct existing-building surveys, document HVAC systems, and complete code compliance research.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary work, provide construction administration, and perform design QA/QC.
  • Lead project teams, guide junior engineers, serve as a client contact, and support business development activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license and LEED AP certification.
  • At least 10 years of mechanical design experience.
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems, mechanical design codes, standards, and guidelines.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to lead teams, communicate effectively, organize priorities, and travel as needed.

Nice to have

  • LEED experience.
  • Knowledge of process piping.
