TL;DR
Senior Professional Engineer, Mechanical - Commercial & Industrial HVAC (HVAC): Leading the design of complex HVAC, plumbing, and industrial facility systems across the full project lifecycle with an accent on process and power, industrial manufacturing, agriculture, and food and beverage facilities. Focus on coordinating multidisciplinary design and construction activities, performing QA/QC reviews, mentoring engineers, and developing systems such as boilers, chillers, process utilities, and central plants.

Location: Hybrid, with in-office work Tuesday through Thursday and work-from-home on Monday and Friday. The role may be based in Bloomington, Minnesota; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Duluth, Minnesota; or Downers Grove, Illinois. Travel up to 10% is required, including occasional overnight travel.

Salary in Downers Grove: $121,200–$175,700 per year.

What you will do

  • Lead mechanical design for complex HVAC, plumbing, industrial ventilation, process, and power systems.
  • Support projects throughout the full lifecycle, from concept and design through construction.
  • Coordinate mechanical solutions with engineers, architects, and other disciplines.
  • Lead QA/QC reviews and uphold technical standards, quality control, and best practices.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop less experienced engineering professionals.
  • Support business development and client relationships through the Seller-Doer model.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • 12–25 years of progressive experience designing mechanical facility systems for commercial or industrial facilities.
  • Experience with HVAC, industrial ventilation, process-related systems, piping, and plumbing design.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Minnesota or the ability to obtain one.
  • Working knowledge of project development, multidisciplinary coordination, and construction processes.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States is required; background, security, and drug screening may be required.

Nice to have

  • Professional registration in additional states, especially Wisconsin, Illinois, South Dakota, or Iowa.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit MEP, Plant 3D, or energy modeling tools such as Trane TRACE.
  • Experience designing boiler and chiller systems, process utilities, central plants, district heating and cooling, laboratory ventilation, or fire protection systems.
  • Experience with food production, agricultural processing, or industrial manufacturing facilities.
  • Project management experience or LEED certification.
