Engineering Intern (Defense)

TL;DR

Engineering Intern (Defense/Hardware): Supporting the Knox Systems Engineering Integration and Test (SEIT) team in hardware integration and lab testing with an accent on rugged edge computing for defense. Focus on bench-level integration, documentation of hardware configurations, and 3D printing of mechanical fixtures.

Location: Must be based on-site in San Diego, CA

What you will do

• Assist with bench-level integration and testing of 3U OpenVPX modules and chassis configurations.
• Operate lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and signal generators.
• Use CAD tools and slicers for 3D printing mechanical fixtures and test aids.
• Maintain integration checklists, test logs, and engineering reports.
• Support requirements traceability activities and documentation reviews.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Mechanical or Electrical Engineering program.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen and eligible to obtain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance.
• Ability to work on-site in San Diego, CA.
• Basic familiarity with CAD software and circuit fundamentals.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience with electronics or electromechanical systems.
• Basic Python or MATLAB scripting experience.
• Familiarity with cable assembly and wiring tools (Altium, Zuken, etc.).
• Experience with SolidWorks Electrical.
