Senior AI Platform Engineer (AI Platform): Build the AI and data platform that turns raw grocery data into trusted context for LLMs, including the knowledge & retrieval layer, agent systems, and evaluation/serving infrastructure. Focus on foundational 0-to-1 platform choices for knowledge representation, reliable grounding, and measurable quality under production constraints.
Location: Hybrid (San Francisco office, 2 days/week). This position is not eligible for company sponsorship.
Salary: $156,060 - $231,140 (U.S.)

What you will do
- Design and operate the knowledge graph/ontology and the retrieval systems (vector, graph, structured) that provide reliable grounding for models.
- Build and serve LLM-powered agent systems (tool-use, multi-step reasoning, orchestration) with infrastructure to run them reliably and cost-effectively.
- Own evaluation, quality, and the data foundation: create eval sets, LLM-as-judge harnesses, tracing/observability, and metrics (faithfulness, accuracy, hallucination rate, latency, cost).
- Build pipelines, data products, and experimentation on Databricks/MLflow to move from prototype to production and harden reusable capabilities.
Requirements
- 3+ years building production software, data, or ML systems; strong systems and API design (Python).
- Hands-on production experience with LLM systems: retrieval/RAG, agents and tool-use, prompt/context engineering, and evaluation (measure quality, don’t eyeball it).
- Solid data-engineering/data-platform foundations: pipelines, data modeling, and modern cloud data stack (Databricks/Spark, MLflow, cloud warehouses).
- Comfort handling the “messy middle” of AI systems: retrieval quality, latency/cost trade-offs, and non-determinism; build guardrails and evals for trustworthiness.
- Platform mindset: build for leverage with clean interfaces and thrive in ambiguity.
