Regulatory Counsel, APAC

Discord is a consumer-facing platform used by millions of people to communicate and play games.

What you will do

• Lead and implement responses to regulatory requests by assessing incentives/threats, gathering responsive information, and drafting accurate submissions.
• Meet with and present to regulatory authorities on Discord’s compliance approach and build long-term relationships with key regulators across the region.
• Prepare risk assessments, online safety reports, and other required reports for in-region regulatory entities.
• Monitor new and updated regulations with Public Policy and Policy Legal, anticipate enforcement risks, and support internal legal analyses and strategic positioning.
• Collaborate with public policy and communications teams on public policy engagement and safety communications, including presenting Discord’s narrative.
• Maintain canonical templates for company positions and practices (e.g., privacy, security, teen safety) with fellow regulatory counsels.

Requirements

• Based in Australia and licensed to practice law in Australia.
• 7+ years of regulatory legal experience related to Internet regulation (online safety/user safety, minor safety, privacy/data protection, consumer protection).
• Deep knowledge of Australia’s regulatory landscape across platform regulations, privacy rights, data protection, and consumer protection.
• Experience preparing and submitting responses to regulatory information requests, risk assessments, and reports to regulatory agencies.
• Experience meeting with regulators in Australia, and ideally experience meeting with regulators in Korea, Japan, and other APAC countries.
• Excellent writing and communication skills to tailor messages to regulatory audiences.
