Java Lead Engineer (Java)

What you will do

• Lead and mentor a high-performing cross-functional agile team of 7-10 software engineers.
• Collaborate with Product, Business, and Architecture teams to define the technical strategy for the Payments domain.
• Translate functional specifications into high-performance logical technical designs and actionable tasks.
• Manage team performance, set goals, and balance capacity to ensure optimal delivery.
• Drive the hiring process and onboarding for new engineering talent.
• Promote standards of technical excellence and innovation using Java 17, Kafka, and GCP.

Requirements

• Strong expertise in Java, OO design, system design, and data modelling.
• Proven experience with distributed, concurrent, and scalable systems.
• Ability to make fast, data-driven decisions and influence technical direction.
• High standards for coding quality and technical excellence.
• Must be based in or be able to relocate to Barcelona or Madrid (Hybrid).

Nice to have

• Experience with Applied AI tools such as GitHub Copilot and ChatGPT.
• Experimentation mindset for integrating AI-driven solutions into development workflows.
• Ability to leverage AI for debugging and streamlining productivity.
