Voice Operations Engineer (VoIP)

Location: US Remote

Salary: $122,200–$183,400 USD for Zone 1 locations and $114,200–$171,400 USD for other US locations. Additional compensation may include an annual bonus and equity.

What you will do

• Own the reliability, performance, and scaling of VoIP infrastructure across geographically redundant US data centers, including SBCs, SIP trunking, and media gateways.
• Build capacity planning strategies, SLA dashboards, runbooks, automated alerting, and operational tooling.
• Investigate complex voice-quality and call-routing issues using SIP/RTP packet captures and lead root-cause analysis after incidents.
• Develop automation in Python, Bash, or Go for provisioning, monitoring, configuration management, and maintenance.
• Integrate telephony data with Grafana, Datadog, ELK, and other observability platforms.
• Coordinate carrier integrations, circuit provisioning, number porting, routing strategy, e911 configuration, toll-fraud detection, and SIP security.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience supporting SIP-based VoIP environments in an enterprise, SaaS, or service-provider setting.
• Expert knowledge of SIP, RTP, SRTP, WebRTC, and ENUM.
• Strong production Linux administration experience with Ubuntu, CentOS, or RHEL.
• Solid understanding of IP networking, including TCP/UDP, DNS, TLS, load balancing, VLANs, subnetting, firewalls, and NAT traversal.
• Ability to write automation in Python, Bash, or Go and explain complex technical issues to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Availability for a 24/7 on-call rotation supporting critical production voice services.

Nice to have

• Experience with Kamailio, FreeSWITCH, Oracle/Ribbon SBCs, or similar SIP platforms.
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, or Ansible.
• Experience with Grafana, Prometheus, ELK, or Datadog observability stacks.
• Background in number portability, CNAM/STIR-SHAKEN, telecom compliance, PBX, or IVR routing.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
