Senior Engineer (FHIR)

TL;DR

Senior Engineer (FHIR): Developing and modernizing healthcare software for the Hospital Quality Reporting program at CMS with an accent on HL7 FHIR standards and interoperability. Focus on building RESTful APIs, implementing Clinical Quality Language (CQL), and ensuring regulatory compliance in a cloud-native AWS environment.

Location: Remote (USA). Must be a US Citizen or Green Card holder and a US resident for the last 3 years.

What you will do

• Design and deliver medium-to-large features for the Hospital Quality Reporting program to reduce provider burden.
• Build and integrate RESTful APIs aligned with HL7 FHIR specifications and healthcare interoperability patterns.
• Develop comprehensive test plans and automate testing processes within CI/CD pipelines to increase coverage and speed.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and client stakeholders to integrate quality standards throughout the SDLC.
• Ensure software compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements, preparing documentation for audits.
• Implement performance and security testing following healthcare best practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and 8+ years of development experience.
• Proficiency in Java/Springboot and at least one other language among GoLang, Python, Angular, or TypeScript.
• Experience with HL7 FHIR standards (R4), HAPI FHIR servers, and healthcare data formats (QRDA, C-CDA).
• Knowledge of AWS, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), and relational databases like PostgreSQL.
• Must be a US Citizen or Green Card holder; sponsorship is not provided.
• Must have US Residency for at least the past 3 years and be able to obtain Public Trust clearance.

Nice to have

• AWS Certifications (specifically ECS Fargate, RDS, S3).
• Experience with Databricks or modern data platforms.
• Familiarity with CMS environments, data pipelines, or regulatory programs.
• Experience with Jenkins or similar CI/CD tools.
