Senior Proxmox Cluster Engineer

Location: Full-time onsite at National Business Park, Maryland, United States

Salary: $122,000–$253,000 per year, depending on qualifications, experience, and expertise.

What you will do

• Operate and maintain Proxmox VE clusters, including quorum health, high availability, node lifecycle management, and capacity planning.
• Standardize VM and container provisioning workflows and troubleshoot issues across compute, networking, and storage layers.
• Configure and optimize host networking, including bridges, bonding, VLAN trunking, and isolated management networks.
• Implement backup and disaster recovery strategies and conduct restore drills.
• Create operational documentation, runbooks, topology diagrams, change logs, and compliance artifacts.
• Collaborate with engineers, mission partners, and government personnel to integrate workloads and improve platform operations.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship and an active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph are required.
• 10+ years of relevant experience with a bachelor's degree, 6+ years with a master's degree, 4+ years with a Ph.D., or 14+ years in place of a degree.
• Production Linux administration experience with RHEL, Ubuntu, or equivalent distributions.
• Experience managing virtualization platforms at scale, with Proxmox VE strongly preferred.
• Proficiency with Ansible and scripting in Bash and Python.
• Knowledge of high availability and clustering, performance analysis, VLANs, link aggregation, traffic segmentation, ZFS or Ceph, and backup and restore methodologies.

Nice to have

• Advanced Proxmox expertise, including HA optimization, corosync diagnostics, multi-cluster architectures, and version migrations.
• Platform design, architecture, DevSecOps, Infrastructure as Code, or GitOps experience.
• Experience with STIGs, RMF, NIST controls, and vulnerability management in classified environments.
• Familiarity with Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, OpenSearch, Splunk, or SLO-based operations.
