Senior HPC Cluster Engineer

Location: Hybrid role based out of offices in College Park, Maryland; Boulder, Colorado; or Bothell, Washington, United States, with remote work a few days per week. Travel up to 15% domestically and internationally.

Salary: $145,920–$209,241 USD base compensation, plus bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Design, deploy, and operate HPC systems for quantum simulations and applications.
• Develop automation tooling for Linux systems across on-premises and cloud infrastructure.
• Support internal researchers and software developers running simulations and other workloads.
• Build technical relationships with stakeholders across teams and support varied workloads.
• Manage projects, priorities, deadlines, technical risks, and roadblocks.
• Become a technical resource for configuring, automating, and operating HPC workloads.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of experience working with Linux systems on HPC clusters, including cluster management, performance tuning, and resource management.
• Experience with HPC workload schedulers such as Slurm, PBS, or Grid Engine.
• Proficiency with Git or other version control systems and scripting or programming languages such as Python, Go, and Bash.
• Experience with Ansible or another configuration-management and system-automation tool.
• Employment involves U.S. export-control and government-contract restrictions; access to certain technology may require U.S. Person status, an export license, or a license exception.

Nice to have

• Experience running scientific applications on Slurm HPC clusters.
• Experience deploying HPC clusters with NVIDIA GPUs and high-performance networking fabrics such as InfiniBand or RoCE.
• Experience with Linux container tools, Kubernetes, and HPC clusters on GCP or AWS.
• Research-computing experience in an academic, national-lab, or industry research environment.
• Exposure to quantum physics, quantum computing, or quantum information science.
