TL;DR
AI Engineer (GCP/Python): Designing and building autonomous AI agents and agentic AI services for customers and colleagues with an accent on safety, security, and scalability. Focus on developing LLM-powered applications, integrating Vertex AI, and leading multi-team engineering deliveries in a regulated financial environment.
Location: Hybrid (Manchester, UK) - 40% or two days per week in office
Salary: £92,701 – £119,966

What you will do
- Set technical direction and lead multiple teams to design, build, and run AI Agents on Google Cloud.
- Define strategy and technical standards for agentic AI services, collaborating with Product and Architecture teams.
- Develop and operate AI Agents using Vertex AI, Cloud Run, GKE, and BigQuery.
- Manage the full solution lifecycle, ensuring security, compliance, and cost-effectiveness (FinOps).
- Drive engineering excellence via reusable components and vendor engagements.
Requirements
- Proficiency in Python and TypeScript with experience delivering production microservices on GCP.
- Proven technical leadership of large, multi-team deliveries and architectural decision-making.
- Hands-on experience with agentic AI, LLMs, RAG, prompt engineering, and orchestration.
- Expertise in cloud-native engineering: GKE, Cloud Run, Terraform, CI/CD, and observability.
- Knowledge of security, privacy, and compliance within regulated environments.
- Must be based in or able to work hybrid in Manchester, UK.
Nice to have
- Experience with Vertex AI Agent Builder, LangGraph, or multi-agent protocols.
- Knowledge of data governance and model risk practices in financial services.
- Exposure to Azure, AWS, or cross-cloud patterns.
- Experience building engineering guilds or communities of practice.
