Staff Scientist I (Environmental)

Location: Must be based in or able to travel to the Sacramento, Fresno, Marysville, or San Ramon, CA areas. This role is hybrid, requiring regular field-based work.

Salary: $50,000 - $60,000

What you will do

• Conduct stormwater inspections and field evaluations at project sites.
• Develop and implement Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs).
• Perform stormwater sampling and site monitoring activities.
• Provide on-site training and guidance to construction crews regarding compliance.
• Prepare detailed documentation, reporting, and compliance records.
• Collaborate with internal teams on routine and complex environmental projects.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, or a related field.
• 0-2 years of experience in stormwater compliance or SWPPP-related work.
• Knowledge of stormwater regulations, water quality practices, and environmental compliance.
• Familiarity with erosion control, site stabilization, and restoration practices.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites, including occasional overnight travel.
• Understanding of California stormwater regulations and permitting is preferred.

Nice to have

• QSP/QSD certification or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Additional certifications such as CESSWI, CPESC, CPSWQ, QISP, PE, or PG.
• Experience with SMARTS and California Construction General Permit.
• Familiarity with industry tools such as ArcGIS.
