Staff Scientist I

Location: San Ramon, California, United States; local to Bay Area project sites. Hybrid work environment combining field-based work with remote flexibility.

Salary: $50,000–$60,000 per year.

What you will do

• Support environmental and stormwater compliance projects.
• Conduct stormwater inspections, field evaluations, sampling, and site monitoring.
• Develop and implement Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans.
• Complete desktop evaluations, site assessments, documentation, reporting, and compliance records.
• Provide on-site training and guidance to construction crews and assist clients with pollution prevention.
• Travel to project sites, including occasional overnight travel and extended hours.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, or a related field.
• 0–2 years of experience in stormwater compliance or SWPPP-related work.
• Knowledge of stormwater regulations, water quality practices, environmental compliance, erosion control, site stabilization, and restoration.
• Experience with inspections, sampling, reporting, documentation, and compliance tracking systems.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to train field teams.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites.

Nice to have

• QSP/QSD certification or ability to obtain it within six months.
• CESSWI, CPESC, CPSWQ, QISP, PE, or PG certification.
• Experience with SMARTS and the California Construction General Permit.
• Exposure to environmental permitting or natural resources work.
• Familiarity with ArcGIS.
