TL;DR
Senior Archaeologist (Cultural Resources Management): Conducting archaeological research, fieldwork, reporting, and regulatory compliance studies for transportation, water, energy, and planning projects with an accent on CEQA, NEPA, NHPA, and cultural resource evaluation. Focus on managing project scope, budgets, schedules, personnel, and subcontractors while solving complex resource-management challenges with multidisciplinary teams.

Location: Sacramento, California, United States; intended to be based in the Sacramento office, with fully or partially remote options for applicants throughout Northern California.

Salary: $73,770–$125,408 annually for full-time employment.

What you will do

  • Manage environmental compliance and cultural resources projects, including client contact, task orders, budgets, invoicing, schedules, staffing, and subcontractors.
  • Conduct historical research, archaeological fieldwork, report writing, and investigations of cultural resources.
  • Evaluate resources for the National Register of Historic Places and California Register of Historical Resources, assess project effects, and develop management recommendations.
  • Develop and implement regulatory compliance solutions under CEQA, NEPA, and NHPA Section 106.
  • Collaborate with archaeologists, historians, ethnographers, planners, engineers, regulators, and natural resources specialists.
  • Support client programs from feasibility studies and programmatic strategies through implementation, operations, and maintenance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in cultural resources management.
  • Valid driver’s license and successful completion of a Motor Vehicle Records check.
  • Strong interpersonal, strategic-thinking, teamwork, and client-service skills.
  • Ability to work across archaeology, built environment, tribal resources, and landscape disciplines.

Nice to have

  • Registered Professional Archaeologist certification or a master’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a related field.
  • Thorough knowledge of CEQA, NEPA, NHPA Section 106, and AB 52 tribal cultural resource requirements.
  • Experience with Northern California Native American tribes, regional contexts, archaeological surveys, testing, evaluation, and GPS.
  • Qualifications to serve as a BLM-permitted Principal Investigator in California and Nevada.
  • Experience working with public and private-sector clients and regulatory agencies.
