Research Scientist

Salary: $110,000–$140,000 per year

What you will do

• Operate, calibrate, maintain, deep-clean, and troubleshoot XRD, XRF, FTIR, rheometer, and GCMS equipment.
• Characterize chemicals, pigments, mineral fillers, polymers, and raw materials for incoming specifications and research initiatives.
• Perform crystal structure and elemental composition analysis, including trace impurity detection.
• Run accelerated weathering and long-term stability studies to assess product lifespan and colorfastness.
• Investigate out-of-specification batches and evaluate how fabrication techniques affect finished-product properties.
• Translate analytical findings into reports, formulation validation, client-performance data, and manufacturing improvements in collaboration with QC, R&D, Application Engineering, and Process Technology.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Materials Science, Polymer Chemistry, or a related engineering or scientific discipline.
• Preferred experience of 1–2 years with analytical equipment and materials characterization.
• Demonstrated problem-solving, communication, organizational, computer, and data analysis skills.
• Knowledge of statistics and established project management skills.
• Ability to stand for up to an 8-hour shift, work at a desk, lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and 20 pounds frequently, and push up to 100 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to wear required PPE, including steel-toed boots, hearing protection, and a respirator, and work in a non-climate-controlled environment.

Nice to have

• PhD in Materials Science, Polymer Chemistry, or a related engineering or scientific discipline.
• Experience with continuous improvement principles, lean manufacturing, or Six Sigma.
• ASQ certification in Quality Engineering or Auditing.
