Senior Staff Engineer (Agentic Databases)

What you will do

• Own one or more Agent Services end-to-end: design the data model, define the API surface, implement core logic, and deliver through production.
• Lead critical cross-functional technical efforts for the components you touch, resolving ambiguity and building consensus.
• Identify design/roadmap gaps early to prevent production incidents.
• Balance long-term system health with shipping needs by making and documenting trade-offs aligned with the team’s architecture.
• Make components production-ready by defining SLOs, instrumenting critical paths, writing runbooks, and meeting customer commitments on durability, availability, and performance.
• Set the technical bar through code/design review and on-call; mentor engineers on Postgres internals and distributed systems design.

Requirements

• Location: Remote work from the United States (California listed).
• 10+ years building and operating large-scale distributed systems, databases, or cloud data infrastructure in production.
• Strong working knowledge of Postgres internals (query planning/execution, MVCC, WAL, vacuuming, replication, extension model) with real-load operational experience.
• Systems programming experience in C or C++; proficiency in at least one higher-level language (Go, Ruby, or Python) for control plane/tooling work.
• Experience building high-availability, multi-tenant, or highly distributed data systems in cloud environments.
• Excellent communication skills to influence across engineering and product without relying on authority.
