Resident Engineer (Highway)

Compensation: $180,000–$300,000 per year

What you will do

• Provide inspection and quality assurance for highway and roadway construction projects.
• Determine if completed work follows plans, specifications, and special provisions.
• Coordinate work with contractors and public utility agencies.
• Negotiate change orders and assist in the preparation of contract estimates and progress reports.
• Monitor and track contractor progress through daily, weekly, and monthly reporting.
• Coordinate sampling and testing of construction materials to ensure compliance.

Requirements

• Must be a licensed Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in roadway and highway construction inspection for major public works.
• Minimum 1 construction highway project experience with Caltrans.
• Minimum 3 years of experience with stress analysis, structural mechanics, and strength of materials.
• Minimum 3 years of experience with physical properties of roadway and bridge construction materials.

Nice to have

• Expertise in toll road projects and tolling systems.
• Experience working with Caltrans District 4 Highway.
• Ability to direct the efforts of subordinate inspectors.
• Strong decision-making skills regarding field problems and construction work in progress.
