TL;DR

Director, Marketing & Communications (Non-profit/Civic Education): Leading the national communications and marketing vision to amplify student voice and project-based civic learning with an accent on strategic brand positioning and high-impact content execution. Focus on building scalable communication infrastructure, mentoring a dynamic team, and leveraging data to drive engagement across diverse stakeholder groups.

Location: Remote (Preference for CT, MA, RI, WA, DC, VT, ME, AZ, DE, MD, & NH). Must be willing to travel up to 30% of the time for in-person team days, retreats, and events.

Salary: $87,444–$91,817

What you will do

  • Architect and implement a multi-channel marketing and communications strategy aligned with the organizational mission.
  • Define the strategic PR roadmap and position leadership as thought authorities through op-eds and media placements.
  • Lead daily content creation, including newsletters, reports, and digital campaigns, while managing the editorial calendar.
  • Supervise and mentor the communications team, including a Social Media Manager and seasonal interns.
  • Engineer communication workflows and systems to enable a distributed team to operate with speed and clarity.
  • Manage partnerships with external PR firms and vendors to amplify organizational reach.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a communications-focused role with progressive responsibility.
  • Experience managing at least one direct report for at least one year.
  • Demonstrated success in scaling infrastructure and systems in non-profit or mission-based contexts.
  • Outstanding writing, editing, and proofreading skills for diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in tools such as Google Workspace, Canva, Hootsuite, and CMS platforms.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 30% for in-person meetings and events.
