What you will do
- Build and own a regional fact base for every state, translating policy and political dynamics into concise state plans with goals, levers, sequencing, and implementation needs.
- Recommend priority states and strategy βplaysβ based on policy opportunity, student reach, adoption potential, feasibility, and College Board priorities.
- Translate subject-matter expert guidance into regional state strategies and run legislative-session rapid response (triage bills, regulations, and budget proposals).
- Lead cross-functional alignment and execution for state plays across Policy, Government Relations, State and District Partnerships, Higher Education, AP, assessments, BigFuture, Legal, Research, and the Office of the CEO.
- Create execution handoffs and maintain decision memos, trackers, dashboards, state briefs, and executive updates; capture lessons learned into repeatable playbooks.
- Engage externally in high-leverage moments with legislators, executive branch officials, coalitions, and higher education actors when a coordinated College Board voice is required.
Requirements
- Work authorization: Authorization to work in the United States
- 8+ years of progressively responsible experience in education policy, state strategy, public affairs, government, advocacy, management consulting, or a related field, with significant direct exposure to state policy and implementation across multiple states.
- Working fluency across K-12, higher education, workforce, assessment, CTE, credentialing, and state legislative/regulatory environments.
- Proven ability to lead complex, multi-state policy work and influence senior partners and external stakeholders without direct authority.
- Exceptional strategic judgment and writing/synthesis skills to produce executive-ready briefs, decision memos, and state plans.
- Ability to travel approximately 6β10 times per year.
