What you will do

• Design, build, and test the platform supporting tax compliance for millions of users.
• Scale large-scale Ruby/Rails and TypeScript/React applications.
• Own and drive the technical strategy and roadmap for the Tax domain.
• Build guardrails into the platform to safely leverage agentic AI for tax interactions.
• Mentor and develop engineers through pairing, code reviews, and knowledge sharing.
• Identify and prioritize long-term investments in foundational systems and architecture.

Requirements

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience designing and developing robust, distributed systems.
• Proven track record of influencing and guiding multiple teams on scaling and refactoring legacy products.
• Experience building fault-tolerant, mission-critical software in highly regulated domains.
• Familiarity with current AI tools (LLMs, Agents) and their application in development workflows.
• Must be able to work from the San Francisco office 2-3 days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience with Ruby on Rails, TypeScript, and React.
• Domain expertise in Payroll, Taxes, or Compliance.
