Principal Network Engineer (Low-Latency Trading Networks)

Location: Mostly on-site, with four days in the office, in Chicago or New York, United States

Salary: $163,625–$240,625 annual base salary, plus potential incentive compensation and equity participation.

What you will do

• Design and evolve resilient, low-latency network architectures across data centers, co-location environments, and cloud-connected infrastructure.
• Lead routing design and implementation involving BGP, OSPF, MPLS, multicast, hybrid cloud connectivity, traffic engineering, and high-availability patterns.
• Conduct technical research, proof-of-concept work, lab validation, and pre-implementation testing for major network initiatives.
• Lead strategic network projects from design through execution, producing technical designs, migration runbooks, capacity plans, and implementation guidance.
• Build and maintain Python-based automation using API-driven and SSH-based approaches for configuration management, testing, and validation.
• Mentor engineers, lead architecture reviews, define engineering standards, and collaborate with infrastructure, security, application, and business teams.

Requirements

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.
• Must work in the office four days per week in Chicago or New York.
• 10+ years of hands-on network engineering experience in mission-critical, low-latency environments.
• Expertise in deterministic network design, latency and jitter analysis, scalable routing, network resiliency, and high availability.
• Experience with hybrid cloud connectivity, including AWS Direct Connect, Transit Gateway, VPCs, and route integration.
• Production-quality Python automation experience, plus knowledge of observability, network security, segmentation, access control, and zero-trust principles.

Nice to have

• Cisco CCIE certification or equivalent experience.
• AWS Advanced Networking Specialty or similar certification.
• Arista, Juniper, or other advanced vendor certifications.
• Experience preparing documentation for regulatory or audit processes.
