Principal Network Engineer (Low-Latency Trading Networks)

Location: Chicago, Illinois, or New York, New York, United States; four days per week in the office under a hybrid work model.

Base salary: $172,975–$254,375 annually, plus potential incentive compensation and long-term equity participation.

What you will do

• Design and evolve low-latency, resilient network architecture across data centers, co-location environments, and cloud-connected infrastructure.
• Lead routing design and implementation using BGP, OSPF, MPLS, multicast, traffic engineering, and high-availability patterns.
• Conduct technical research, lab validation, hardware evaluation, and pre-implementation testing for major network initiatives.
• Lead strategic projects from architecture and migration planning through execution, including technical designs, runbooks, and capacity plans.
• Develop Python-based automation for configuration management, validation, testing, and operational efficiency.
• Mentor engineers, lead architecture reviews, improve engineering standards, and collaborate with infrastructure, security, application, and business teams.

Requirements

• 10+ years of hands-on network engineering experience in mission-critical, low-latency environments.
• Deep expertise in deterministic network design, latency and jitter analysis, advanced routing, and highly available global networks.
• Experience with hybrid cloud connectivity, including AWS Direct Connect, Transit Gateway, VPCs, and route integration.
• Production experience with Python network automation using API-driven and SSH-based approaches.
• Knowledge of observability, telemetry, network security, segmentation, access control, and zero-trust principles.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice to have

• CCIE Routing & Switching or Data Center certification, or equivalent experience.
• AWS Advanced Networking Specialty or similar certification.
• Arista, Juniper, or other advanced vendor certifications.
• Experience preparing regulatory or audit-facing technical documentation.
