Staff Software Engineer (Storage Platform)

Location: Bellevue, Washington; in-person attendance is expected at least 3 days per week.

Base pay: $230,000–$270,000 USD per year for the Bellevue compensation zone, plus bonus opportunities, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Design and implement distributed storage systems, including horizontal sharding, query routing layers, and database proxy services.
• Improve availability, failover, and disaster recovery across multi-region deployments.
• Build control-plane automation for thousands of databases and caching clusters.
• Optimize database performance and throughput through query analysis, connection pooling, and observability.
• Partner with product and infrastructure teams to standardize service connections to relational, NoSQL, and caching systems while meeting regulatory and security requirements.

Requirements

• Deep expertise in PostgreSQL, preferably Aurora PostgreSQL, and strong knowledge of relational database internals.
• Experience building or operating distributed systems with horizontal sharding, replication, and distributed transactions such as two-phase commit.
• Proficiency in Go and/or Rust, with experience developing backend or infrastructure services.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, AWS managed services including RDS and DynamoDB, and observability tools for metrics, logging, and tracing.
• Strong understanding of reliability, performance tuning, and cost optimization in high-scale production environments.
• Ability to work from the Bellevue office at least 3 days per week.
