Principal Software Engineer (Cloud)

Location: Hybrid work environment with defined in-person presence requirements in Rockville, Maryland, United States; occasional travel and extended hours may be required.

Salary: $154,400–$299,600 annual base salary for work performed in Maryland, Virginia, Massachusetts, or Washington, DC. Additional salary ranges apply to other listed U.S. locations.

What you will do

• Design, create, test, refine, and implement software solutions that improve system functionality.
• Deliver longer-term technical outcomes autonomously as a company-level expert.
• Identify technical gaps, accumulated technical debt, risks, and opportunities for technology-based mitigation.
• Improve engineering excellence through performance optimization, software security, test automation, and unit testing.
• Guide and mentor colleagues in engineering techniques and processes while providing functional supervision.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and cross-functional partners to support technical and business opportunities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline with at least 10 years of related experience, or a master’s degree with at least 8 years of related experience; equivalent training or work experience may be considered.
• Mastery-level experience in system design and object-oriented development.
• Mastery-level experience with cloud technologies and strong experience with data storage technologies.
• Strong background in performance tuning, optimization, DevOps, CI/CD, test automation, unit testing, and software security.
• Advanced knowledge of computer science fundamentals, including algorithm design, problem solving, complexity analysis, and data structures.
• Ability to work in a hybrid environment with defined in-person presence requirements in the United States.
