Lead Java Software Developer (Sports Betting)

Location: London-based, United Kingdom; fully remote or one day per week in the office

Salary: £100,000–£150,000 per year

hirify.global is a sports betting startup building a fast-moving platform powered by live and historical sports data.

What you will do

• Lead the technical direction of critical backend systems.
• Build, ship, debug, and maintain production Java services.
• Design and solve complex distributed systems, asynchronous processing, and state-management problems.
• Own reliability, correctness, observability, and production performance.
• Review code and raise engineering standards through hands-on technical leadership.
• Drive ambiguous technical problems from initial idea through production delivery.

Requirements

• Strong commercial Java experience at senior or lead backend engineering level.
• Strong Spring Boot and PostgreSQL/SQL skills.
• Experience operating production systems where reliability is critical.
• Strong debugging, problem-solving, ownership, and hands-on coding skills.
• Comfort working autonomously in a small engineering team and using modern AI coding tools extensively.
• Applicants must be based in London and able to work fully remotely or attend the office one day per week; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Experience with Java 21, AWS SQS/SNS, WebSockets, Bazel, Docker, Testcontainers, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, or Sentry.
