Head of Customs Brokerage (Cross-Border Freight)

Location: Cross-border operations across Laredo, Texas and Mexico City, with travel to customer sites as needed. Preferred familiarity with the Laredo border market.

What you will do

• Lead day-to-day customs clearance operations for US imports and exports across the US-Mexico border.
• Act as the escalation point for complex entries, compliance issues, and time-sensitive shipments.
• Build, mentor, and develop a team of four customs professionals across Laredo and Mexico City.
• Own senior customer communications, retention, relationship management, and expansion opportunities.
• Partner with product and operations teams to improve customs workflows in NuvoOS, the company’s native TMS.
• Identify automation opportunities and help define how AI tooling can reduce manual clearance work.

Requirements

• Active Licensed Customs Broker (CHB) required.
• Professional fluency in English and Spanish required.
• 3–10 years of customs brokerage experience with meaningful US-Mexico cross-border exposure.
• Hands-on experience with ACE, ABI, HTS classification, C-TPAT, FAST lanes, and related compliance frameworks.
• Strong working knowledge of USMCA, DODA, PAPS/PARS, and Carta Porte.
• Proven ability to manage customer relationships and escalations professionally.

• Based in or deeply familiar with the Laredo, Texas border market.
• Experience leading or mentoring a customs team.
• Familiarity with TMS platforms and technology-forward operations.
• Commercial exposure or existing customer relationships.
• Experience with alcohol, food, or other regulated commodity clearances.
