Cost Engineer (Automotive)

TL;DR

Cost Engineer (Automotive): Creating, analyzing, and validating component material costs and production tooling estimates within the Product Program Cost Optimization team with an accent on ground-up cost modeling and cross-functional collaboration. Focus on driving cost reduction initiatives, managing complex supplier negotiations, and supporting vehicle program development through advanced analytical techniques.

Location: Must be based in Toluca, Mexico (Hybrid: expected to report to the office at least 3 times a week).

What you will do

• Generate detailed ground-up material cost estimates including piece price and production tooling.
• Collaborate with product engineering, purchasing, and supply chain teams to validate cost targets.
• Analyze large datasets to identify and propose cost reduction opportunities.
• Partner with internal purchasing teams to ensure competitive component pricing.
• Support assigned vehicle programs from a tooling and piece price perspective.
• Travel domestically (25-50%) to supplier facilities for collaboration and support.

Requirements

• 5 years of experience in manufacturing processes, supplier negotiations, and product cost analysis.
• Advanced English proficiency is required.
• Comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing processes and regional cost assumptions.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to organize and interpret large amounts of data.
• Must be authorized to work in Mexico (GM does not provide immigration sponsorship).
• Ability to travel regularly (25-50%) for supplier collaboration.

• Knowledge of AI tools for data analysis and cost modeling.
