Senior Java Engineer (Java)

Location: Hybrid, with on-site work two days per week in Leeds/Bradford, England, United Kingdom.

What you will do

• Develop high-quality commercial software using Java, JavaScript and a range of tools and frameworks.
• Make technical decisions that account for clients’ wider business concerns and stakeholder challenges.
• Implement and take ownership of architecture, DevOps, performance, security and engineering best practices.
• Provide technical guidance as the most senior engineer on projects and help teams achieve project goals and quality standards.
• Mentor junior engineers and support Squad Leads.
• Write effective documentation and share knowledge across multidisciplinary teams.

Requirements

• Proven commercial development experience working as a Lead Engineer in a commercial development team.
• Expert understanding of Java and JavaScript, with broader experience across tools and frameworks across the stack.
• Commercial experience with agile methodologies.
• Experience implementing architecture, DevOps, performance or security practices, with ownership of best practices including TDD, SOLID and XP.
• Working knowledge of CI/CD practices and deployments.
• Ability to consider clients’ wider business concerns when making technical decisions and handling stakeholder challenges.
• Ability to mentor junior engineers, support Squad Leads and provide technical guidance as the most senior engineer on a project.
• Experience writing effective documentation and sharing knowledge.
• Strong expertise, clear communication, collaborative problem-solving, adaptability and an outcome-focused approach.
