Senior Software Engineer (Agentic Commerce)

Location: Hybrid in Lisbon, Portugal, or London, United Kingdom. In-person interviews may be required at a hirify.global office or hub.

Salary: €66,000–€91,000 annual salary for Portugal-based hires; compensation may vary by work location. The role is also eligible for hirify.global’s equity plan.

What you will do

• Design and build resilient, low-latency systems and architectures that make web resources payable for autonomous agents through emerging protocols including x402, WBA, ACP, and UCP.
• Write RFCs and architecture specifications for engineers across the Agentic Commerce team and other hirify.global engineering groups.
• Partner with customers and Product Management to define requirements, product KPIs, and scalable architectural roadmaps.
• Architect services that reduce complexity, recover from internal and external failures, and improve observability and system health.
• Lead complex incident responses, retrospectives, root-cause analyses, and systemic remediation across teams, services, and protocols.
• Mentor engineers, conduct high-impact specification and code reviews, improve engineering and interviewing processes, and share technical knowledge.

Requirements

• Deep software engineering and distributed systems expertise, with experience architecting, building, and operating high-throughput, low-latency production services.
• Broad experience with HTTP, API design, payment protocols and rails, web security, and cryptographic authorization mechanisms.
• Experience defining product KPIs and translating complex customer and product requirements into architectural roadmaps.
• Experience debugging complex distributed-system failures spanning multiple teams and systems, with a focus on systemic remediation.
• Strong experience with technical mentorship, incident retrospectives, and process improvements inside and outside the immediate team.
• Ability to prototype rapidly, evaluate architectural trade-offs, and establish design patterns in an emerging technical domain.
• Excellent technical writing and communication skills, including drafting RFCs and specifications used by multiple engineering organizations.

Nice to have

• Fluency in Rust, especially async Rust, or TypeScript/JavaScript edge runtimes such as hirify.global Workers, Durable Objects, and KV at system-architectural scale.
• Deep knowledge of agentic payment protocols including x402, A2P, ACP, UCP, and Web Bot Auth, or digital wallet architectures.
• Experience architecting event metering pipelines, usage-based billing engines, outcome verification systems, or revenue attribution tools.
• Experience with smart contract bridges, cryptography including public-key encryption, signatures, and hashes, or hybrid fiat/crypto payment infrastructure.
• Active contributions to open-source payment systems, agent protocols, web standards, or distributed systems projects.
• Experience training interviewers, closing candidates, or guiding company-wide technical standards.
