Mortgage Loan Officer (Mortgage Origination)

Location: Vienna, Virginia, United States; full-time, 40 hours per week; occasional domestic travel.

Salary: $12.77 per hour; the job description also states $11.54 per hour depending on established local minimum wage, plus commission.

What you will do

• Meet with prospective customers and referral sources, explain mortgage products, and recommend options based on individual needs.
• Guide customers through mortgage applications, collect supporting documentation, manage expectations, and communicate required information.
• Sell and originate residential mortgage loans in accordance with company policies, legal requirements, and regulatory guidelines.
• Enter applications into mortgage systems, prepare files, submit materials to underwriting and processing, and use point-of-sale underwriting systems within assigned authority.
• Communicate loan decisions, clear conditions, finalize commitments, and coordinate with customers, underwriters, processors, realtors, and closing agents through closing.
• Develop sales plans, generate referrals, participate in homebuyer events, maintain industry knowledge, and recommend product, program, or pricing changes.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or progressive work experience in addition to the required experience.
• 2+ years of mortgage origination experience.
• Proven sales ability, strong negotiation skills, and developing knowledge of mortgage products, lending practices, industry standards, and regulatory guidelines.
• Self-directed approach, ability to plan activities to achieve sales goals, and strong time-management skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• PC skills and ability to learn mortgage origination and automated underwriting systems.
• Must be eligible for employment with a covered financial institution and eligible for registration as a mortgage loan originator with NMLS under applicable federal requirements.
• Satisfactory criminal background and credit report checks, plus required statements or certifications regarding government findings, are required by federal law.
