Principal Combustion Engineer (Waste-to-Energy)

Location: Remote from the USA, with travel up to 20%

What you will do

• Serve as the senior technical authority for combustion systems, furnace operation, and boiler performance across waste-to-energy facilities.
• Analyze operating data, trends, transient events, and control-system information to identify performance, reliability, and emissions drivers.
• Guide troubleshooting, control strategy adjustments, operating targets, and improvements to combustion stability and throughput.
• Support root cause analyses of environmental exceedances, abnormal emissions events, and combustion-related deviations.
• Partner with Environmental, Operations, Maintenance, plant leadership, and corporate engineering teams on sustainable corrective and preventive actions.
• Develop combustion best practices, share institutional knowledge, and mentor engineers and plant personnel.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline; equivalent experience may be considered.
• 8–10 years of experience in combustion systems, boiler performance, thermal processes, or industrial power generation.
• Experience supporting operating facilities in a senior technical or advisory capacity.
• Ability to analyze complex operating data and convert findings into practical, high-impact recommendations.
• Strong technical judgment, systems-level thinking, communication, organization, and reporting skills.
• Ability and willingness to travel up to 20% to support facilities and investigations.

Nice to have

• Waste-to-energy or solid-fuel combustion experience.
• Experience with environmental compliance investigations or emissions-related root cause analyses.
• Deep familiarity with combustion control systems and distributed control systems.
• Experience influencing outcomes without direct authority.
