Staff Software Engineer (Data Engineering)

Location: Hybrid, with teams and managers deciding which 10+ days per month employees come into the office

Salary: $212,000–$265,000 USD annual base salary for positions based in California; equity, bonuses, and additional compensation are not included.

What you will do

• Set the technical direction for the Caspian Data Platform, a centralized lakehouse supporting analytics, financial reporting, product intelligence, and data-driven operations.
• Design and build core platform capabilities for ingestion, transformation, governance, and data quality.
• Define Databricks pipeline patterns and reference architectures while shipping production data flows and prototypes.
• Establish data contracts, lineage, validation frameworks, and engineering quality standards.
• Lead complex, ambiguous initiatives spanning multiple quarters and teams.
• Develop AI capabilities for data engineering, including agentic pipeline operations, automated transformation generation, and conversational analytics.

Requirements

• 10+ years of data engineering experience architecting and operating large-scale data platforms while remaining hands-on.
• Deep expertise in Databricks, Delta Live Tables, Unity Catalog, Delta Lake, and Spark.
• Experience owning ingestion, transformation, governance, and data quality for production platforms.
• Expertise in SQL and Python for data modeling, transformation, and platform tooling.
• Strong AWS experience operating data systems at scale.
• Experience building AI tooling, agentic systems, LLM integrations, or conversational analytics, plus the ability to influence engineers and leadership through technical credibility.
