Senior Software Engineer (Payments)

Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands — hybrid mode

Salary: €125,000–€160,000 per year, plus equity and bonus. Total compensation is stated as €150,000–€200,000.

What you will do

• Develop REST services and integration components within a backend microservices architecture connected to a React frontend.
• Build next-generation Payment Acceptance infrastructure for the international payments platform.
• Design and implement capabilities aligned with the product roadmap.
• Conduct architectural reviews, address technical debt, and improve operational effectiveness.
• Collaborate with the payments product team and, occasionally, partners’ engineering teams.
• Work on payment gateways, acquiring, issuing, and related payment systems.

Requirements

• Over 4 years of experience with modern engineering practices, continuous integration, and quality engineering.
• Strong computer science fundamentals and recent experience with Java or Kotlin and Spring or Spring Boot.
• Experience designing REST APIs and high-volume distributed systems.
• Experience with Kafka event streams and distributed data stores such as Cassandra, Hazelcast, Oracle Coherence, or similar technologies.
• Experience with GCP or AWS, including services such as EC2, RDS, ELB, and CloudFront, plus Docker and Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of operational tooling such as New Relic, StatsD, ELK, Datadog, or Prometheus.

Nice to have

• Experience developing payment gateways, acquiring platforms, or issuing platforms.
• Experience integrating local payment methods such as iDeal, Klarna, or Trustly, or major card networks such as Visa and Mastercard.
