TL;DR
Avionics Senior Mechanical Engineer (Aerospace): Designing and qualifying rugged avionics enclosures, mounting systems, and printed circuit board hardware for human-rated space stations with an accent on electronics packaging, thermal and structural analysis, and configuration management. Focus on validating requirements through testing and analysis, integrating flight-critical avionics, and solving mechanical design challenges in harsh space environments.

Location: Onsite in Long Beach, California, United States. Full-time work at the Long Beach location; occasional evenings and weekends may be required for critical mission milestones.

Salary: $137,760–$265,392 per year, depending on level, experience, and demonstrated capability.

What you will do

  • Support electronics development, trade studies, interface definitions, specifications, and control documents.
  • Design high-reliability avionics enclosures, mounting solutions, integration brackets, and rugged printed circuit board systems.
  • Validate requirements through design, testing, analysis, and inspection.
  • Plan and conduct tests, interpret test data, and review qualification plans.
  • Complete thermal and structural analyses and create assembly, installation, and engineering drawings.
  • Manage integrated product configuration throughout the design and manufacturing lifecycle while collaborating with electrical and cross-disciplinary engineering teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or another engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience with electronics packaging or critical electronic components in extreme environments.
  • Professional experience with 3D CAD programs.
  • Experience implementing and analyzing GD&T according to ASME Y14.5.
  • Must be a U.S. person or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing under U.S. export control requirements.
  • Ability to work onsite in Long Beach and lift up to 25 lbs unassisted.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or another engineering discipline.
  • Experience with NX and ruggedized electronics enclosures or other high-performance hardware.
  • Familiarity with environmental testing such as SMC-S-016 or MIL-STD-810.
  • Familiarity with circuit card design standards including IPC-A-610 and J standards.
  • Experience with ANSYS or similar tools, electrical schematic reviews, and Altium or similar software.
