Manager I, Engineering - Change Experience Platform (Backend)

Location: New York, New York, USA; hybrid workplace.

Salary: $192,000–$240,000 USD per year, plus equity and potential variable compensation.

What you will do

• Lead and grow a small engineering team responsible for internal platforms and product experiences used across Datadog.
• Set technical direction for UI frameworks, CLI tooling, notification platforms, subscription models, and infrastructure governance workflows.
• Define standards for usability, reliability, documentation, adoption, and supportability of internal developer-facing platforms.
• Contribute hands-on by writing code and troubleshooting issues when needed to unblock the team.
• Manage performance and career development while cultivating a team with diverse skills.
• Partner with engineering, infrastructure, developer experience, platform, and product stakeholders to prioritize impact and run quarterly OKR planning.

Requirements

• Experience managing engineers working on internal platforms, developer tooling, infrastructure tooling, product platforms, or similar systems.
• Strong technical judgment across distributed systems, internal tools, APIs, data models, and user-facing engineering workflows.
• Significant experience with one or more backend languages, such as Go, Python, or Java.
• Experience with data stores such as PostgreSQL, Cassandra, Redis, or Elasticsearch.
• Enough frontend or product-surface fluency to guide development of internal UIs, design systems, and workflow tools.
• BS, MS, PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related scientific field, or equivalent professional experience.
