Senior Software Engineer (Backend)

What you will do

• Design and deploy backend services in Java/Kotlin to process high-volume telemetry and alerting workloads.
• Build and optimize distributed data systems and high-throughput pipelines.
• Collaborate with product managers and engineers to implement new alerting features and reduce technical debt.
• Advocate for architectural improvements and provide technical direction while assessing trade-offs.
• Ensure the reliability and security of software through clean code, peer reviews, and internal documentation.
• Develop and ship code to production multiple times per day using agile practices.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional backend software engineering experience, preferably in SaaS or product-based environments.
• Strong proficiency in Java/Kotlin, OOP principles, RESTful APIs, and multi-threaded programming.
• Experience with relational databases, including complex SQL optimization, pagination, and scaling.
• Proven track record of shipping reliable, high-throughput services in a production environment.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems and how to write code and queries that perform at scale.
• Must have legal eligibility to work in Canada; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience with LLMs, AI agents, prompt design, and retrieval-augmented workflows.
• Familiarity with message queuing and streaming patterns like Kafka, Flink, Spark Streaming, or gRPC.
• Knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, and Terraform.
• Cloud computing experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Working knowledge of frontend technologies like React, TypeScript, and GraphQL.
