Senior Data Engineer (Python)

What you will do

• Design and maintain scalable data architectures, data pipelines, and automated workflows.
• Integrate operational, scientific, and geospatial data into enterprise systems.
• Ensure data quality, integrity, availability, and security throughout the data lifecycle.
• Develop, test, deploy, and sustain software applications supporting NAVOCEANO and CNMOC missions.
• Support modernization involving cloud technologies, geospatial systems, and advanced analytics platforms.
• Collaborate with scientists, analysts, software developers, and mission stakeholders while mentoring junior engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
• Active Secret Clearance or ability to obtain an Interim Secret Clearance before starting.
• 7–10+ years of experience in algorithmic and software application development.
• Experience with Python, modern data-processing libraries such as Polars or Pandas, Pydantic, Git or Subversion, XML, JSON, Markdown, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Strong understanding of data modeling, data integration, database design, and structured and unstructured datasets.
• Experience applying Artificial Intelligence to accelerate performance and understanding data velocity, volume, variety, and veracity concepts.

Nice to have

• Security+ certification and experience with ETL/ELT, large-scale data ingestion, transformation, analytics workflows, orchestration, and automation.
• Experience with meteorology and oceanography time-series data, ESRI technologies, geospatial systems, and NOAA ERDDAP APIs.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity practices, DISA STIG checklists, container technologies, cloud platforms, and databases such as PostgreSQL with PostGIS, SQL Server, or Oracle.
