Staff DevOps Engineer (DBOps)

Location: Remote for candidates in Poland; Central European Time (CET) working hours.

Salary: $9,400–$11,800 per month, B2B contract.

What you will do

• Own observability, monitoring, and alerting for production database clusters and replication topologies.
• Optimize database configurations, schemas, storage architectures, queries, and system scalability.
• Implement sharding, partitioning, high-availability clustering, backup, and recovery strategies.
• Manage critical production incidents and develop preventative engineering solutions.
• Lead disaster recovery testing, data classification, engine upgrades, and architecture reviews.
• Build cloud infrastructure and deployment environments with Infrastructure as Code, automate operational tasks, and collaborate on migrations and API integrations.

Requirements

• 5+ years of production experience designing, implementing, and operating relational databases, plus 3+ years in DevOps, SRE, or software engineering.
• Production-scale expertise with MySQL or PostgreSQL, including backups, replication, indexing, and partitioning.
• Advanced knowledge of database architecture, data modeling, query optimization, high availability, and backup and recovery.
• Experience with public cloud infrastructure and Infrastructure as Code, including AWS and tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, Pulumi, or CDK.
• Proficiency in Python or Golang, Linux, Docker, Kubernetes or ECS, CI/CD pipelines, and monitoring platforms such as Datadog or New Relic.
• Fluency in Polish and English is required; candidates must be based in Poland.

Nice to have

• Experience with Kafka, Confluent Cloud, data streaming, or ETL architectures.
• Demonstrated use of AI tools to improve workflows and outputs.
• Strong systems thinking, distributed architecture troubleshooting, and ability to explain complex database trade-offs.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
