Senior Software Developer (Python)

Location: Stennis Space Center, Mississippi, United States; majority of tasking performed on-site

What you will do

• Design and maintain scalable data architectures, data pipelines, and automated workflows.
• Integrate operational, scientific, and geospatial data into enterprise systems.
• Develop, test, deploy, administer, and sustain mission-critical software applications and data platforms.
• Ensure data quality, integrity, availability, and security across the data lifecycle.
• Support modernization involving cloud technologies, geospatial systems, and advanced analytics platforms.
• Collaborate with scientists, analysts, developers, and mission stakeholders while mentoring junior engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
• 7–10+ years of experience in algorithmic and software application development.
• Python experience with modern data-processing libraries such as Polars, Pandas, and Pydantic.
• Experience with Git or Subversion, XML, JSON, Markdown, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Knowledge of data modeling, data integration, database design, and structured and unstructured datasets.
• Active Secret Clearance or ability to obtain an Interim Secret Clearance before starting.

Nice to have

• Security+ certification and experience with cybersecurity best practices and DISA STIG checklists.
• Experience with ETL/ELT, large-scale ingestion and analytics workflows, orchestration tools, and data governance.
• Experience with meteorology and oceanography datasets, ESRI technologies, geospatial data systems, and ERDDAP.
• Knowledge of PostgreSQL with PostGIS, SQL Server, Oracle, container technologies, and cloud platforms.
