Senior Software Engineer, Operator Tools (Aerospace)

Location: Remote, Byron, California; applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States as U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents.

Elroy Air develops aerospace and logistics technology, including the autonomous Chaparral aircraft, for defense, commercial, and rapid-response applications.

What you will do

• Build desktop applications for mission planning, real-time telemetry, vehicle diagnostics, calibration, pre-flight checks, log analysis, and fleet management.
• Develop visualization and data presentation for complex time-series, spatial, and autonomous-system data.
• Implement communication interfaces between desktop tools and embedded systems using serial, UDP, custom protocols, and MAVLink or similar technologies.
• Create web-based flight-data replay, post-mission analysis, and fleet-level trend reporting tools connected to cloud databases.
• Collaborate with simulation infrastructure engineers to expose cloud batch results through actionable user interfaces.
• Contribute to software architecture, API design, developer experience, and internal tooling quality.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software development experience, including desktop applications and web-based tools.
• Strong C++ and/or Python skills and experience structuring non-trivial desktop applications.
• Experience building usable interfaces for real-world operational conditions.
• Ability to work across application logic, protocol parsing, and data visualization.
• Experience integrating software with real hardware or real-time data sources.
• U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency and authorization to work in the United States are required; all employees are screened through E-Verify.

Nice to have

• Experience in aerospace, defense, robotics, or other safety-critical domains.
• Familiarity with embedded software concepts and constraints.
• Experience with cloud-based simulation or batch-processing infrastructure.
• Exposure to geospatial visualization, 3D rendering, or time-series data at scale.
