Core Software Engineer (C++)

Location: Remote (Global, in countries where ClickHouse has a hiring presence)

What you will do

• Analyze and optimize core database performance, including query optimization, aggregation, and joins.
• Implement low-level optimizations such as SIMD instructions to enhance system efficiency.
• Develop and extend performance tests using real-world and synthetic datasets to prevent regressions.
• Provide expert support to the engineering team for debugging complex performance issues.
• Collaborate with core teams to assess the impact of new features on system performance.
• Engage with the open-source community by resolving issues, reviewing PRs, and answering technical queries.

Requirements

• Solid professional experience in C++ development in Unix environments.
• Strong knowledge of database internals and design principles.
• Proven experience in performance engineering, ideally within databases or high-frequency trading systems.
• Ability to work effectively within and across distributed engineering teams.
• Strong problem-solving skills and production debugging capabilities.
• Must be located in a country where ClickHouse has a hiring presence.

Nice to have

• Experience with ClickHouse database internals.
• Knowledge of TCP/IP and network programming.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure services and Kubernetes.
• Previous contributions to open-source projects.
• Experience in security, privacy, and compliance.
