Lead Character Artist (Gamedev)

TL;DR

Lead Character Artist (Gamedev): Leading the creation and quality assurance of high-fidelity, real-time character assets for a large-scale immersive experience with an accent on modular pipelines, scalability, and performance optimization. Focus on mentoring a team of artists and bridging creative vision with technical constraints in Unreal Engine 5.

Location: Must be based in Montreal and willing to work in the office at least 4 days per week.

What you will do

• Translate art direction into high-quality, real-time character assets.
• Lead, mentor, and review work from a team of character artists.
• Own visual quality, consistency, and scalability across your specialty track.
• Partner with Tech Art, Animation, and Design teams for seamless integration.
• Build and evolve modular, scalable pipelines for large-scale production.
• Ensure assets meet performance, LOD, and runtime requirements.

Requirements

• Minimum 7 years of experience in AAA game development.
• Prior experience as a Lead on at least one shipped AAA title.
• Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
• Deep understanding of real-time character pipelines and modular systems.
• Strong portfolio demonstrating realism, quality, and scalability.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.

Nice to have

• Production experience with Unreal Engine 5.
• Experience with procedural or systemic character workflows.
• Background in open-world or large-scale production.
• Experience working with outsourcing partners or distributed teams.
