Research Communications Manager (AI Safety): Developing and executing external communications strategies for 's safety research with an accent on technical storytelling and risk mitigation. Location: San Francisco, CA (Hybrid: 3 days/week in office). Relocation assistance available.
Salary: $185k – $205k + Equity

What you will do
- Shape safety research narratives around alignment, evaluations, preparedness, and interpretability.
- Translate complex technical work into accessible stories for expert and non-expert audiences.
- Partner with safety and alignment researchers to identify and position key ideas publicly.
- Lead proactive storytelling across blogs, explainers, videos, podcasts, and events.
- Manage media engagement and build relationships with science, technology, and AI journalists.
- Identify and mitigate reputational, scientific, or policy risks in high-stakes narratives.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in research, science, technology, or safety-related communications.
- Proven experience working directly with scientists, engineers, or technical leaders.
- Strong understanding of AI, machine learning, safety research, or alignment.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills with the ability to adapt tone for different audiences.
- Must be based in or be able to relocate to San Francisco, CA for a hybrid schedule.
