Design Manager, Design Systems: Lead the Design Systems team to define how Flatiron products look, feel, and function across every surface with an accent on scalable front-end practices, component governance, and adoption across product teams. Focus on building and sustaining cross-functional partnerships, managing breaking-change processes, and contributing hands-on through code, documentation, and design while integrating AI-assisted design and development workflows.

What you will do
- Lead and mentor a team of 3–4 designers and design technologists as a player-coach, developing systems thinking and delivery of high-impact work.
- Define and drive the Atrium design system roadmap, including component governance, breaking change management, and adoption across product teams.
- Contribute directly to Atrium through code, documentation, and design, modeling craft standards for the team.
- Partner with engineering and product management to align on front-end standards, scalable UI patterns, and contribution models.
- Translate complex design-systems problems into a clear, sequenced backlog and communicate priorities based on org-wide impact.
Requirements
- 6–9 years of experience in design systems or front-end development, including 1–2 years managing or mentoring others.
- Experience shaping a mature design system with governance, documentation, contribution models, and breaking change processes.
- Experience managing or mentoring 2–4 designers or technologists with a track record of developing technical and strategic thinking.
- Deep fluency in design tooling (Figma, shared libraries, tokens) and front-end code (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks like React), with ability to contribute in both.
- Skilled communication to translate design systems strategy for engineering stakeholders and front-end constraints for design stakeholders.
- Experience in health tech, enterprise software, or other complex product environments where accessibility, consistency, and reliability are non-negotiable.
