TL;DR

Privacy Counsel (Fintech): Supporting the implementation and adaptation of a global privacy framework across the EU and UK with an accent on data protection compliance and cross-border data transfers. Focus on embedding privacy by design, conducting DPIAs, and providing business-focused legal advice to cross-functional teams.

Location: Must be based in London, UK (Hybrid)

What you will do

  • Execute privacy strategy for the EU and UK, ensuring compliance with GDPR, UK GDPR, and ePrivacy Directive.
  • Conduct privacy impact assessments and DPIAs for new products and business initiatives.
  • Provide practical, business-focused legal advice on privacy matters to internal stakeholders.
  • Manage data subject rights requests and support privacy breach preparedness and incident response.
  • Advise on and negotiate data processing agreements and cross-border data transfer mechanisms.
  • Monitor legislative developments and provide analysis to senior leadership.

Requirements

  • Law degree and qualified solicitor, barrister, or equivalent in an EU member state or the UK.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a privacy lawyer.
  • Strong knowledge of EU and UK privacy laws, including GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018.
  • Proven experience advising on cross-border data transfers and standard contractual clauses.
  • Experience handling data subject rights requests and regulatory notifications.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to collaborate with a global team across time zones.

Nice to have

  • Experience in the FinTech or payment services sector.
  • Professional privacy certifications such as CIPP/E, CIPM, or CIPT.
