What you will do
- Develop, review and maintain engineering standards for substation control systems, including RTUs, telecontrol and automation equipment.
- Produce technical specifications and standardised substation control system architectures aligned with operational and regulatory requirements.
- Design and execute test plans, evaluate vendor solutions, and assure equipment before deployment.
- Develop, configure and test repeatable RTU builds and control system configurations across sites.
- Produce engineering schematics, control cabinet layouts and wiring diagrams using AutoCAD.
- Collaborate with engineering, cybersecurity and operations teams to implement scalable, maintainable and secure OT solutions.
Requirements
- Experience in operational technology or control system environments, preferably in utilities, energy or industrial infrastructure.
- Strong experience designing, configuring or commissioning substation control, telecontrol or automation systems, including RTUs.
- DNP3 experience is essential; familiarity with IEC 61850 is desirable.
- Knowledge of electricity distribution networks, engineering standards, codes and regulatory frameworks is highly desirable.
- Experience creating engineering drawings and schematics with AutoCAD, plus knowledge of substation protection and control schemes.
- Understanding of OT cybersecurity principles, including secure configuration, access control, network segmentation and system hardening; effective communication with technical and wider stakeholders is required.
Nice to have
- Degree or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems or a related discipline.
- Familiarity with IEC 62443 and certifications such as CCNA, CompTIA Security+ or vendor-specific RTU/SCADA certifications.
