What you will do
- Lead the drafting, review, and negotiation of commercial technology agreements, including SaaS, AI solution terms, and partner arrangements in Japanese and English.
- Provide practical legal advice to Japan Sales and Partner Sales teams to enable revenue while managing risk.
- Manage direct and indirect transactions, focusing on reseller models, flow-down terms, and end-customer obligations.
- Advise on data privacy (APPI), cybersecurity, and AI governance for enterprise cloud services in Japan.
- Develop and improve contracting templates, playbooks, and self-service tools to enhance deal velocity and scalability.
- Coordinate with external counsel for specialist Japan law advice while reducing unnecessary outside spend.
Requirements
- Qualified to practice law in Japan (registration with the Japan Federation of Bar Associations).
- 6+ years of post-qualification legal experience, ideally in tech, SaaS, or AI sectors.
- Strong Japanese language capability required.
- Professional-level English proficiency to communicate with global stakeholders and review contracts.
- Strong experience in commercial contracting and indirect deal structures.
- Working knowledge of Japan data privacy (APPI) and technology regulatory issues.
