Senior Software Engineer - Rust

Location: Remote, United States. U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret / SCI security clearance are required.

Salary: $148,750–$201,250 USD per year

What you will do

• Design and implement high-performance distributed systems in Rust for cloud-native, resource-constrained, and edge environments.
• Contribute to system architecture, network topology design, hardware evaluation, engineering reviews, and full lifecycle product development.
• Develop human-in-the-loop and human-on-the-loop autonomy systems that combine sensing, decision support, and distributed operations.
• Build deterministic build infrastructure, reproducible environments, configuration management, and traceable deployment workflows.
• Implement OTA updates for virtual machines, containers, and embedded packages, and integrate software with microcontroller peripherals and hardware buses.
• Design and execute unit, software-in-the-loop, hardware-in-the-loop, functional, end-to-end, field, and scale testing while optimizing reliability, performance, power consumption, and maintainability.

Requirements

• Professional experience in software engineering, embedded systems, or firmware development delivering production-grade products.
• Strong proficiency in Rust; low-level, embedded, or no_std experience is beneficial.
• Experience with microcontroller peripherals and interfaces including SPI, I2C, UART, Ethernet, USB, and related hardware buses.
• Knowledge of distributed systems, network architectures, TCP/UDP, BLE/LoRa, routing, trust systems, certificate management, encryption, CRDTs, offline-first systems, and synchronization or replication.
• Experience with software design, algorithms, debugging, testing, profiling, and performance optimization, plus strong cross-disciplinary communication skills.
• U.S. citizenship and eligibility to obtain and maintain a Top Secret / SCI security clearance.

Nice to have

• Experience with autonomy, robotics, human-machine-AI teaming, or machine learning techniques.
• Experience with software-defined radio, MANET, or industrial and robotics communications systems.
• Experience deploying systems in contested, disconnected, degraded, or adversarial edge environments.
• Open-source or industry standards contributions, and optimization for speed, size, power consumption, or cost.
