TL;DR

Senior Mechanical Engineer (Mechanisms): Designing and developing critical mechanisms for portable nuclear microreactors with an accent on reactivity control and safety actuation. Focus on thermomechanical analysis, structural integrity, and the integration of complex mechanical subassemblies.

Location: Must work 100% onsite at El Segundo HQ. Unable to provide visa sponsorship.

Salary: $133.5K – $184.8K + Equity

What you will do

• Own the design and development of critical mechanisms, including control blade actuators and air jacket valves.
• Perform detailed thermomechanical, static strength, durability, and kinematic analyses using hand calculations and FEA tools.
• Develop and execute manufacturing and assembly instructions and test plans.
• Manage the Bill-of-Materials (BOM) and develop suppliers for necessary components.
• Own risk analysis (FMEA) for assigned subsystems.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to gather requirements and provide technical expertise.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering.
• 4+ years of experience designing mechanisms.
• 4+ years of experience in stress analysis using hand calculations and finite element tools (Abaqus, Ansys, FEMAP or similar).
• Must be compliant with U.S. export controls.
• Must be based in or able to work 100% onsite in El Segundo, CA.

Nice to have

• Experience with multi-component assembly design in CAD (NX or similar).
• Experience designing pneumatic systems or integrating electromechanical components (motors, encoders).
• Solid understanding and application of GD&T.
• Experience with text-based software development tools.
